At Harlem Zen, we use high-quality lasers that deliver long-lasting results. Our LightPod Neo is the safest and gentlest aesthetic laser available. Its Micropulse-1064 technology transmits energy to the skin 30-50 times faster than other lasers. This allows patients of all skin types to receive pain-free treatment without the use of messy cooling gels or anesthetics. This simple beam of light touching the skin can make a world of difference in the care and look of your skin.

How our lasers treat:

Acne

Acne is a common condition across both youths and adults characterized by sebaceous glands being obstructed by the p. acnes bacteria. This causes blemishes on the skin and can lead to scarring if not treated properly. Until recently, patients could only be treated by topical or oral medications. Now, LightPod lasers can result in substantial improvement for the treatment of acne and acne scars. The laser’s energy effectively destroys the p. acne bacteria, while restoring collagen to damaged skin. The result is a significant clearance of active acne and visible acne scars.

Patients need to be informed that clearance of acne typically takes up to 4 treatments in order to see a good result. Acne is caused when pores become clogged and then infected with the p. acnes bacteria. It is not always caused by poor diet or hygiene, but a change in each may help yield better results. The laser light heats of the affected area to effectively kill the p. acnes bacteria while also helping to shrink the sebaceous glands, which will cause them to produce less oil, limit future outbreaks and reduce pore size. Also, some patient’s condition may become worse before it gets better. This should subside as the treatments progress. There is no cure for acne, only maintenance, so the patient should be aware that they may need more treatments in the future.

Angiomas

LightPod lasers are able to safely treat a broad range of visible blood vessels from angiomas and spider veins to large leg veins. The laser delivers a pulse of laser energy, which will cause the blood within the vein to coagulate and destroy the vessel, which will absorbed by your body over several weeks to leave your skin looking rejuvenated and youthful. No matter what part of your body is affected, LightPod lasers can safely and effectively take care of any unwanted vessels.

Melasma

Laser hair removal (LHR) uses a combination of heat and energy to destroy the hair follicle without harming the skin around it. LightPod lasers offers patients a uniquely pain-free and gentle way to get rid of any unwanted hair. Most patients who have been treated by other lasers say that being treated with a LightPod laser is much gentler and more pleasant. During laser hair removal, the hair must be in its growing phase in order to be successfully destroyed. To ensure that all hair is effectively removed during the growing phase, you will receive a series of treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. This will successfully ensure maximum results.

PFB (Pseudofolliculitis Barbae, i.e. ingrown hairs, razor bumps or beard bumps) is an irritating condition that is commonly caused by shaving. It often appears in patients of darker skin types, including tanned skin and skin types IV through VI. The laser selectively targets melanin in the underlying hair and follicle, as well as hyperpigmentation surrounding the lesion. Due to LightPod lasers' unique 650-microsecond pulse duration being 50 to 500 times shorter than pulses durations typically used for hair removal by other laser technologies, the energy passes through the skin quickly and does not overheat the epidermal melanin to effectively treat the condition.

Nail Fungus

Laser treatment for nails is safe, quick and highly effective. Most patients are able to be treated with just one or two sessions, although follow up sessions may be appropriate for some. Laser procedures for nails are proven to be a much safer and effective method as compared to oral medications or topical creams. One of the key aspects of treating nails is to achieve penetration of the laser energy into the nail bed. This area needs significant heating to ensure targeted structures are destroyed, which requires a deep-heating and powerful laser. The LightPod technology offers patients the ideal laser for such treatment. After the treatment, patients are able to resume their daily activities as normal. Results are not immediate, as it takes anywhere from 3-12 months for new nail to grow.

Some patients will respond better than others depending on the severity of the condition and how well the patient adheres to the recommended after treatment care. While some patients may be no longer be affected, their nail may not return to it’s natural color. Recurrence rate is high, especially in elderly patients and continuous foot care and monitoring their feet is the best regiment to deter recurrence.

Pigmented Spots

Sun and age spots are commonly found on sun exposed skin. They typically do not appear until middle age and can appear in all skin types. Birthmarks and freckles are also commonly found in many people as a pigmented spot on the body without any sun damage. Spots can increase with age and with increased sun exposure. They are more common in people who freckle and who burn easily. It is important to know that if you have had enough sun to develop age spots, you have a higher risk of developing skin cancer. Age spots are collections of a pigment (called melanin) that have accumulated in the epidermis. Unlike some freckles, which darken in the summer and fade in the winter, age spots do not fade.

Some patients will respond better than others and the number of treatments for each lesion may depend on the darkness and size of the lesion as well as the amount of laser energy used. After treatment the lesion should continue to darken and eventually slough off in 3-4 weeks. Some differences in pigmentation between the treated spot and surrounding tissue may persist after the lesion is fully or mostly removed.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic disorder that causes thick red plaques with silvery scales on the skin. The thick scaling is due to a rapid increase in the multiplication of skin cells, Your body produces other immune responses which can lead to swelling and the rapid production of skin cells. Psoriasis symptoms tend to increase and decrease, but certain factors can cause flare ups, including, but not limited to alcohol, stress, medications, smoking and skin trauma.

Some patients may not respond as well as others. Psoriasis lesions tend to subside after the first or subsequent treatments.. Regardless of the treatment response, recurrence is common and can be caused by a number of lifestyle factors. It is important to understand that psoriasis is a chronic condition that can only be controlled rather than cured.

Scars

The LightPod Neo is used to target pigment including red (vascularity) and brown (hyperpigmentation) to improve the cosmetic appearance of the scar.

Loose Skin (Skin tightening treatments)

LightPod lasers offers a uniquely non-invasive skin rejuvenation with tightening treatment to stimulate healthy collagen and restore your skin’s youthful appearance. This process will help firm healthy skin, get rid of any red or brown spots as well as help fill in wrinkles without any patient downtime. Only a beam of laser light touches the skin for the most pleasant treatment available. Typically, several treatments spaced out over a 6-month period deliver remarkable results.

The best candidates for skin rejuvenation are patients with skin types I-IV aged 30-55 showing the initial signs of aging such as fine lines, minor wrinkles, sun damage and vessels as well as signs of reduced skin laxity. Other patients may respond to such treatments, but as a segment, the patients aforementioned typically see the best results. Patients should begin to see results immediately after the treatment and the results will continue to become better over time. After the complete set of treatments (typically once a month for 6 months) patients can expect to see the results continue for the next six months, after which they can start the treatments again.
